Farmers also face social, economic and policy challenges that can undermine their ability to secure the benefits of their hard work.

Over its 31 years of experience, A2N-Uganda has identified a number of issues requiring wider policy attention, including alcoholism, theft of food from household granaries and insecurity arising from inadequate land documentation and tenure arrangements.

Instead of simply identifying these challenges, A2N-Uganda has supported farmer groups to understand the issues affecting them and to become advocates for change. This has helped communities move from being passive recipients of development assistance to becoming more informed participants in discussions about policies and decisions affecting their livelihoods.

A2N-Uganda’s practical experience at community level has also positioned it as a trusted development partner.
